Siuslaw Fisherman’s Association
Florence, Oregon
Quarterly Newsletter
- June 2009 -
Website:
www.siuslawfisherman.org
Hello Everyone!
I know it has been a long time
since you have heard from your Board of Directors and I
apologize for that. There have been a lot of things
happening with SFA, but one of the Board goals this year is
to get back on track with the most important part of this
organization and that is our members!
You will be receiving a
newsletter on a quarterly bases. The goal I have for this is
newsletter is two fold. To keep you updated with the Ice
Machine and the second is to help educate everyone about the
fishing industry and how important it is to support it
within this community. Any articles or information that you
have regarding either of these I would hope you share with
me so I can pass it on to the rest of the membership.
I would also encourage any of
you that have a computer that you log on to our web site at
www.siuslawfisherman.org. We have a very wonderful
person who upgraded the site and is volunteering to maintain
it. It is a great way to communicate and find information.
The minutes of every Board Meeting are being posted as well
as pictures and articles of the latest Events that have
involved the SFA.
One of those events was the
recent scholarship awards that the SFA gave to two very
deserving graduating students from
Siuslaw
High School.
Miss Shantee Herring is applying for Massage Therapy program
and Mr. Jacob Williams is applying for a Diesel Technology
program. Good luck to these two!
The Board has its monthly
meetings on the third Tuesday of every month. It is held at
the
Nazarene
Church
at
1536 12th Street
in the up stairs meeting room at 6:00 pm. (There is an
elevator if needed.) As members you are welcome to come and
your input will be greatly appreciated.
The latest on the Ice Machine
is that IT IS UP AND ON THE DOCK! That has been a bigger
challenge than we ever thought, but we are grateful that we
have gotten it this far. There are some big steps to making
it functional yet. There needs to be stairs and cat walks
built around it so that it can be maintained and run
safely. The auger and ice delivery system still needs to be
built and attached. Then there is getting the electrical as
well as plumbing completed and then the machine itself
running. These are some big challenges but we have every
confidence that it will happen.
The next major event that is
scheduled is the Fish Barbeque on Labor Day weekend. We
have taken on the challenge of doing this for two days,
Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 until 4:30 each day. There
is need for items for our silent auction to help raise funds
and a great need for volunteers to help with the planning
and implementing of the Fish Barbeque itself. It will be a
very busy two days and we can use all the help we can get!
It there is any way that you feel you could help with either
of these, please contact Shirley Saulsgiver at 999-1301 or
myself at 902-2345. Your support of coming to the fish
barbeque and bringing all your friend and family will be of
great support as well!
I have sent this newsletter to
all current members as well as supporters that have let
their memberships lapse. If you are in the first category,
thank you for your continued support, if you are in the
second category, we certainly appreciate your support in the
past and hope that you will consider joining us once again,
and if you are not sure which category you are in, please
feel free to call Ken Urwin at 997-1454 or 999-9638 or
myself at 902-2345 and we can let you know where your
membership stands. As much as I would like to continue
mailings to everyone those who are not current members will
not receive further newsletters, as we all know how costly
mailings are these days.
I hope this catches you up on
just a little information. I want to thank each of you for
your support in the past and hope that we can all see the
brighter future that is on the horizon.
As part of the education I
promised I have included an excerpt from our Grant proposal
that Chad Bogart has spent hundreds of hours getting ready
for us.
Chad
has done an incredible job getting the information gathered
to get us over the last major financial hurdle. I will
include the rest of the Grant information it in the
following newsletters.
