In the first newsletter I included some information that Chad gathered on the fishing industry for the grant.  I have included the continuing information from where I left off last time in this one!  Happy reading!

Hello Everyone!

Well, this has been an exciting summer!  I can't believe it is September already!  I wish I could say that we have found the funds to complete the Ice Machine, but unfortunately that is not the case. The one grant we were hoping for did not come through.  We are now looking into some other funding and will hopefully know by the end of the month if we will receive this money.  You know, fund raising is just like loosing weight, it is that last $50,000- $100,000 that is the hardest!

We are still in the process of getting blueprints for the catwalk done, and we have lined up what permits we need to complete everything. So, once the money is there, we can jump into getting this done.  Until the money comes through though, we are at a standstill.  The amount we are looking for is  $81,000. It is a formable amount of money to raise, but we haven’t given up yet!

The bright note is that our annual BBQ was GREAT!  We did have it for Saturday and Sunday over Labor Day weekend. The weather each day started with cold rain and winds, but about 10:30 each day, it cleared up and we ended up with some really good weather.  We served over 300 meals.

The community showed us WONDERFUL support by donating over $3000.00 worth of items and services.  It was great watching everyone bidding on the silent auction trying to get that last bid in before it ended!  Without community support we would get nowhere and we greatly appreciate all that we receive!

The Siuslaw Viewfinders Photo Club was instrumental in our success by not only volunteering many hours to help us with the BBQ, but by selling some incredible photos at a price where anyone could afford them and then donating their entire proceeds to the SFA.  We can’t thank them enough for their generous support.

The Horn Ensemble played for us on Saturday and was a wonderful!  There is nothing like live music to listen too!   Bill and Jim played after that and again, a joy to have live entertainment!

The last group that made these days such a success was our AWESOME group of volunteers.  We just could not do this without you.  To each of you… WE THANK YOU!  From preparing the food, cooking it, serving it, selling tickets, helping with the silent auction, setting up, tearing down, and cleaning up, we had just an incredible group of people.   I even had some of them saying they had a great time and want to do it again soon!

We raised over $6000.   We still have bills to pay out of that, but will end up with a good bit of that to go forward with.  Plan on joining us next year for a really good time!

The next major agenda is having the annual meeting for the election of the Board.  According to our By Laws, the SFA is supposed to have an annual meeting of members.  At that meeting the voting is suppose to take place for the Board members and any other major changes that need to be voted on.

We are planning on having the meeting sometime in November.  There will be a post card or letter sent to the members with further information.

Speaking of Board members, if anyone is interested in being on the Board, please contact a current Board Member and let them know.  New faces with new ideas sometimes are what are needed to see around the problems that face any group.

One of the most important things you can do is to renew your membership.  It really does make a difference when we apply for grants and such as to how many members we have.  This shows what kind of community support we have.  If nothing else, please renew your membership, and if you have any friends that would be interested in joining, please invite them to do so!

Hope to see you at the meeting!
